Santa Barbara coaching

Built around real movement, real goals, and the body you have today.

Strength that carries over

Train for what you want your body to keep doing.

Strength training should make the rest of life feel more manageable. That might mean lifting a suitcase without worrying about your back, hiking Santa Barbara trails with more confidence, keeping up with your family, or finally feeling comfortable around weights.

As your personal strength coach, I choose exercises that fit your body and teach the details that make them useful. We build from repeatable reps, then add load, range, or complexity as you are ready for it.

How one-on-one strength training works

  • Learn the main movement patterns - squat, hinge, push, pull, brace, and carry
  • Use progressive resistance so the plan gets harder for a reason, not at random
  • Adjust exercises around your experience, mobility, joints, and previous injuries
  • Build technique and control before adding more weight or complexity
  • Train at home, outdoors, in a local gym, or in a private Santa Barbara studio
  • Use the Tip Top Fitness app between sessions if you want extra structure and tracking

Laurence is a fabulous trainer and workout coach! As the owner of Rincon Fitness (now Key2Fitness) I watched Laurence help so many people (including my family) improve their strength and conditioning, all with the awareness for safety and proper form.

Training with Laurence over the last year has been a stellar experience. The workouts he creates are fun and challenging, and it's been amazing to see how much my fitness has improved since I've been working with him. He's professional and knowledgeable.

Laurence has been working with my 91-year-old mom for the past year, after she had been bedridden for over a year and a half. With his steady support and guidance, she's been able to start walking again and regain strength we didn't think was possible.

Strength training FAQ

Do I need strength-training experience?
No. Beginner strength training is a large part of what I do. I teach the movement first, choose a starting load you can control, and progress only when the current step feels solid.
Where do strength-training sessions take place?
We can train at your home, outdoors, in a local gym, or in a private studio in Santa Barbara. I bring equipment for in-home sessions when needed.
Can I build strength around an old injury or joint limitation?
Often, yes. I adjust exercise selection, range of motion, load, and pace around what you can tolerate. If you are still under medical care or have not been cleared after an injury or surgery, start with your clinician first.
Is this bodybuilding or high-intensity training?
Only if that is your goal. Most clients want useful strength for daily life, better movement, more confidence, and the ability to keep doing the activities they enjoy.
How much is the first session?
Your first full-hour session is half price at $60. It is a real training session where we discuss your goals, look at how you move, and establish a sensible starting point.
